4th grade Math teacher .. can;t remember her name but I could draw her right now (of I had an ounce of artistic sketching ability that is!) Loved her. She IS the reason I loved Math ... until I had to take geometry.

The best teachers really stand out. They bring that extra inch of 'light' students are thoroughly enchanted by. I have favorites for different reasons...different things they brought to my experience.

Two grade school teachers come to mind: Mr. Antoine and Miss Adair. Mr. Antoine was my fourth grade teacher. I remember him crying the day President Kennedy was assassinated. We couldn't quite take in what had happened but it made us sad to see him cry. My third grade teacher was Miss Adair. She was from New Zealand and she was such a lovely young lady. She missed her country so much and instilled a love for it's natural wonders into us--the native Maori people, the kiwis, the beauty of the land.

I remember very little of my elementary school years. From kindergarten through 6th grade I went to 5 different schools. I don't remember any of my teachers and few experiences. For all 12 years of school, I only really remember 2 teachers who had a great impact on me and they really made a difference. Teachers don't always realize what a difference they can make in a child's life.

Oh my yes! I remember all my grade school teachers, but the one that stands out the most was Mrs. Jenkins. Her son was my age - and cute :-) They lived right across the street from one my best friends. What I remember the most, though, was that she pulled two of my teeth. It was almost like having my mom right there in school. There were all other kinds of educational support - but it's those teeth that I remember the most!

I, too, can name all my elementary school teachers! Also my junior high and most of high school. Those memories are really seared into my brain. When I joined a Facebook group for my high school, several of us who had been in elementary school together reminisced about teachers. My most beloved teacher was a third grade teacher, Miss Petersilge. What is interesting is that I can't, in reflecting back, really know what was so special about her for me. I have fond memories of reading aloud to the class and some projects I did. I also remember learning the multiplication tables! But why she was so incredibly great in my mind I'll never really know. I hold an emotional memory more than the details.

What a great trip down memory lane. In England we call Elementary School (or at least what would be equivalent to the first few grades of Elementary School) "Infant School" and we start younger (usually at the age of four!). As you can imagine there was more time for creative play as we started younger. I was playing with a toy that was a clown created out of wooded rings stacked up on a wooden pole, with a hat on the top holding it all in place. I couldn't get the top off (it must have been squeezed on very tight) so I asked my friend Judith to help me. She pulled one end and I pulled on the other. Our teacher, Mrs. Stratford, saw me and I got told off for trying to take the toy away from Judith! I was very shy and timid so didn't stand up for myself (nor did Judith say anything...). Even recalling this I can feel the emotions in my body - shame at being told off (I was a "good girl!") and the injustice of it. I think that is why it is such a clear memory for me!

Good journey Cory. For me If there had been little preparation for the huge changes that occur between one grade and other, this left me floundering to achieve best rand results and make less harder for me to make friends at that time (80's)
